Dussehra or Vijaya Dashami is the tenth day of the Navratri festival. It celebrates the victory of good over evil.

According to mythology, Goddess Durga had killed demon Mahishasura after nine nights of furious battle. The tenth day is celebrated as Vijaya Dashami or Dussehra.

Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day or dashami tithi of the shukla paksha of Ashwin month of Hindu calendar.

Dashami Tithi Starts: October 04, 2022 2:21 PM.

Dashami Tithi Ends: October 05, 2022 12:00 PM.

Vijay Muhurat: October 04, 2:13 PM – October 04, 3:00 PM.

Ravana Dahan is an important tradition of Dussehra as effigies of demon Ravana are burnt with fireworks, marking evil’s destruction.

The festival also starts the preparations for Diwali, the important festival of lights, which is celebrated twenty days after Vijayadashami.
