Widow gangrape and murder: Odisha Mahila Cong to stage protest Monday

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has announced to stage a state-wide agitation on Monday over the gangrape and murder of a 45-year-old widow at Balikuma village under Kamakhyanagar tehsil in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, informed OPCC President Prasad Harichandan at a press conference here today.

The women wing of OPCC will hold protests and stage agitations at all district headquarters across the state against the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, Prasad said.

“Law and order situation in Odisha has deteriorated and women are no way safe in the state. We are going to protest at all district headquarters across the state against the recent gangrape and murder of a woman in Balikuma village in Dhenkanal district,” said Mahila Congress State President Sasmita Behera.

The protest will be held jointly by women and SC/ST wings of Odisha Congress. OPCC will guide and support us during the protest, she added.

Besides, the OPCC demanded trial of the case in a fast track court and Rs 20 lakh compensation to the victim’s family.
