Wife, paramour arrested for murder of man city

Bhubaneswar, March 24:

The Commissionerate Police on Monday arrested a 24-year-old woman and her lover for killing a construction worker Muna Reddy (35) at Niladrivihar under Chandrasekharpur police limits on Saturday night.

The accused identified as Lily Reddy, wife of Muna, of Aska in Ganjam district and her lover, Bapi Dalabehera of Nayagarh, were forwarded to the local court here today.

During interrogation the accused have confessed their crimes to police following an arrest,inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Chandrasekharpur police station Sarat Kumar Sahoo said. Police has also seized a sharp weapon and a hammer used in the murder from the crime spot.

The IIC said Lily was having an extra-marital affair with Bapi for the last one year after marrying Muna and used to have regular fights with her husband over her affair.

A few months ago, Bapi even went to his native place after he had a fight with Reddy. “Three months ago, he came back and started working as a construction worker at Niladrivihar where Muna was working,” said Sahoo.

Around 8.30 pm on Saturday, Lily and her lover Bapi came to Lily’s residence while Muna was drunk and was sleeping. “First, the duo had sex in the house and then it was Lily, who asked Bapi to kill her husband, so that the duo could leave happily ever after,” the IIC said.

According to the plan, Lily hit Muna’s head with a hammer during his sleep. “After the hit, Reddy woke up and then Bapi strangulated him and thrashed his head with the hammer to death.”

The same night, Lily told the media persons at the Capital Hospital that her husband was wounded by a group of unidentified persons who dumped him in front of their residence.

When police lodged an Unnatural Death (UD) case instead of murder, it was Lily who pressurized the police to investigate the matter as murder. But the high drama came to an end after police investigated the matter thoroughly.

“It was all part of her drama to cover up the incident. But after in depth investigation, we got to know that the murder was carried out by the wife of the deceased and Bapi,” the IIC added.

Police have registered a murder case against the accused today after withdrawing the UD case that they had registered on Saturday night.
