Wife to defend Sabyasachi in court

In line with the true spirit of an Indian wife, Mili Panda, spouse of now jailed top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda, today donned the role of his defence lawyer after he signed the ‘vakalatnama’ (a defendant’s declaration giving powers to a lawyer of his choice to plead his case in the court on his behalf) appointing her as his lawyer.

Mili Panda today submitted the vakalatnama to the Additional District Court-II here and hoped that her client husband will get justice. She said apart from her husband’s case, she will take up cases of poor and downtrodden people who are unable to afford to pay lawyers.

Sabyasachi was today produced before the court in connection with two cases against him. Two witnesses appeared before the court and recorded their statements.

The next hearings in the cases have been fixed for 12th and 13th next month.
