Wild elephants on rampage in Athagarh

A herd of 20 wild elephants is on a rampage in five villages under Athgarh forest division keeping its residents on their toes in a state of panic.

The herd which included calves ran amok destroying crops in several acres of paddy fields in Rajnagar, Betakholi, Benthapada, Tailamala and Ghantikhola villages on Tuesday.

Vehicular movements on Athagarh-Munduli road came to a halt for some time Tuesday evening as the herd of pachyderms created panic among passersby.

Believed to have migrated from the Chandaka forest, the herd of elephants is roaming around Megha jungle under the Athagarh forest division, eye-witness accounts said
