“If his (Sanatan Mahakud) son doesn’t accept me I will be forced to seek a DNA test of my daughter. I want my husband. I want recognition for my daughter, her career. I had never come for maintenance or money. They had attempted for a mutual settlement by offering me money for the maintenance of my daughter. I will meet the Chief Minister if I am not accepted by them,” said Kavita to reporters here today.

Refuting charges that she had absconded after reporting the matter Kavita said: “After lodging my complaint I had gone home since me and my daughter were sick. I am demanding my rights. I have no intention to defame anyone.”

Mahila Police Station here has registered a case against Sanatan Mahakud and his son-in-law Dinabandhu on the basis of complaint lodged by Kavita on March 1.

The case has been registered under sections 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 341(Punishment for wrongful restraint), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation)and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) sections of the IPC against Mahakud and his son-in-law.

Kavita has also alleged that the Odisha State Women’s Commission (OSWC) chairperson Lopamudra Buxipatra had tried to hush-up the case by asking her to accept some amount from the opposite party and go for a settlement. However, OSWC authorities have refuted the allegations.
