Williamson Magor’s vice-chairman Khaitan dead

Kolkata, March 9:

The vice chairman of the Kolkata-based Williamson Magor Group (WMG) industrialist Deepak Khaitan passed away early Monday here after prolonged illness.

Aged nearly 60 years, Khaitan is survived by his wife, son Amritnashu Khaitan and daughter Nitya Bangur.

With varied experience in the beverages, engineering and battery industry, he served on the board of four companies – McLeod Russel, Eveready Industries, McNally Bharat Engineering and Kilburn Engineering.

“Our non-executive vice chairman has passed away today,” an official from Eveready Industries told IANS when asked about his death.

The eldest son of B.M. Khaitan, he was instrumental in the acquisition of the Eveready brand from Union Carbide in 1995.

The turnover of the WMG is estimated to be Rs.5,000 crore.

Khaitan was a horse-racing enthusiast and member of the Calcutta Turf Club. IANS
