Woman activist slaps cop during protest rally in Athagarh

Cuttack: Tension ran high in Badamba area under Athagarh sub-division in Cuttack district after a woman activist, reportedly from BJP, scuffled with a woman cop during a protest rally by the saffron party in the locality today.

The situation turned worse when the woman abused and slapped the cop when the latter was trying to disperse the crowed. However, other police officials present on the spot intervened and later took control of the situation.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of BJP workers, including women took out a rally protesting against the State Government over a number of issues, including corruption and PC (percentage) culture in the State. Holding party flags and raising anti-Government slogans, the activists also gheraoed the Badamba block office.

They raised issues like closure of the Badamba sugar mill, irregularities in distribution of ration cards under National Food Security Act (NFSA) and poor road connectivity in the area.

On the other hand, police forces were deployed on the site to avoid any untoward incident during the protest.
