Woman arrested; brown sugar worth Rs 3.4 lakh seized

Bhubaneswar, July 11:

The Cuttack Excise team, along with the Special Squad of the Commissionerate police, today arrested a 34-year-old woman in the Odisha capital and seized brown sugar worth Rs 3.4 lakh from her.lady-drug-peddler-arrested

Aisa Bibi of Haldiapada under Laxmisagar police limits was arrested during a surprise raid by the joint excise and police team based on intelligence input.

The excise team, which had been monitoring the movement of Bibi for many days, apprehended the accused from the area while she was selling the narcotics to drug peddlers.

Bibi, according to officials, is a key distributor of brown sugar and had been selling illegal drugs in the area to the drug users like auto drivers, migrants and labourers since one and half years. She was purchasing the brown sugar from  agents who belong to Midnapore district of West Bengal.

She used to sell the brown sugar to drug users in packets at high rates. She sold adulterated brown sugar in the locality to increase her income, excise officials informed.

Charges under section Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 21 (B) have been pressed against the accused, excise officials said.
