Woman charred to death in house fire in Cuttack; 12 houses completely gutted

Choudwar: A woman was charred to death after a fire broke out in Haridapal village of Karanji panchayat under Tangi block and Choudwar police limits of Cuttack district. At least twelve houses were completely gutted and properties worth lakhs of rupees got burnt in the inferno.

The deceased woman has been identified as 25-year-old Pushpalata Mahanta, the wife of Ranjeet and daughter-in-law of Dhaneswar Mahanta.

According to a source, the blaze took place in the afternoon initially in the house of Dhaneswar in the village for reasons not known. Pushpalata tried to save her household assets following the incident of the blaze leading to her untimely death.

Pushpalata entered the house but could not come out, an eyewitness said.

Gradually, the fire spread to nearby areas in the locality and engulfed other houses.

On being informed, a team of local police and fire services personnel reached the spot and doused the flames. Choudwar police have registered a case in this connection and launched a probe.
