Woman killed over ‘dowry demand’ in Odisha’s Khordha

Khordha: A woman was allegedly killed by her in-laws over dowry demand at Thanapalli village under Begunia police limits in Odisha’s Khordha district. The deceased has been identified as Binati Behera, wife of Kalindi Behera.

“They (woman’s in-laws) used to torture my daughter demanding more dowry. After marriage, they had demanded Rs 1 lakh more. Her in-laws have strangled her to death as there is injury mark on her neck,” the deceased’s father said.

Binati was yesterday rushed to hospital after her health condition deteriorated. However, she was declared brought dead at the hospital.

The family members of the woman have lodged a police complaint in this connection. Police have detained the husband of the woman for questioning, who was nabbed by villagers while he was trying to flee the spot.
