Woman, two children burnt alive in fire mishap in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

Baripada: In a tragic incident, a woman and her two children were reportedly burnt alive in a fire mishap at their house located at Unchagaon village under Jharpokharia police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, last night.

The deceased were identified as Surukuni Marndi, her 5-year-old daughter Sarita and 3-month-old son.

The mishap took place around 2 am when the victims were sleeping inside the house.

On being informed, Fire Services personnel from Saraskana rushed to the village and doused the flames. However, the three were already charred to death by then.

On the other hand, Mangal Marndi, the woman’s husband, came under the suspicion of police as he escaped unhurt in the mishap while he was also sleeping in the house.

Police have detained him for questioning and started an investigation into the incident.

A pall of gloom descended on the village after the incident.
