Woman worker of police canteen was gang raped & murdered: Odisha Congress

Malkangiri: A month after a woman worker of Malkangiri police canteen died,  senior Congress leader Pradeep Majhi today alleged that the woman was gang raped and murdered and the police are suppressing the heinous crime.
The former MP alleged that the woman was gang raped inside the police canteen  on May 7 and she died on May 11 due to lack of treatment. He further alleged that police personnel had organised a feast in the canteen on the fateful day but the cops have not disclosed it. It’s been a month since she died, but her post-mortem report has not come yet, Majhi stated.

On May 15, a team of the district Congress had met the SP and demanded action against the culprits. However, no action has been taken in this regard yet, he said. The ex-MP warned that the party would intensify its stir in coming days and gherao the state Assembly if the culprits are not arrested at the earliest.

“Odisha comes second after Assam in terms of crimes  and 94 out of every 100 criminals are not being acquitted. As far as crime against women is concerned,  over 95,000 such cases are pending in the state,”  he said.

On May 7, husband of the woman found her in critical condition and admitted her to a hospital in Malkangiri. He had also alleged that his wife was raped. On May 11, the woman was shifted to a hospital in Koraput, where  doctors again referred her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. However, she died on way to the hospital the same day.
