Women teachers asked to clean school toilet in Odisha; photo goes viral

Puri: Taking exemplary action to keep clean the school premises, a senior official landed in controversy for engaging the women teachers to clean the ‘dirty’ toilet.

The act by the officer was condemned by the teachers’ group after a photo showing the women teachers cleaning the toilet went viral on social media.

The incident was reported from a state-run school at Talajang village under Sadar block on Wednesday in Puri district.

According to reports, Mamata Mishra posted as the Block Education Officer (BEO) in Puri Sadar Block asked the women teachers to clean the toilet after she found the school premises unclean during school inspection.

Taking her order, the women teachers cleaned the toilet. The photo featuring them holding the broom and bucket went viral on the internet.

Reacting to the report, the BEO said that the condition of the school toilet was unhygienic and she cleaned it. Refuting the allegation, she said that women teachers joined her in the cleaning work.
