Women tie liquor trader to a tree in Odisha village

Phulnakhara, May 16:

Peeved over sale and consumption of liquor in the area leading to anti-social activities women of Guali village in Odisha’s Cuttack district took law into their hands and tied Sarat Singh (26) alias Tudunga, a bootlegger to a tree on Sunday.

The women who seized a  carton of liquor from his possession later handed him over  to police.

As per reports, the accused was out on bail. He was earlier arrested and sent to for the same offence, fifteen days ago.

On finding that he was back business after coming out of jail, women of the village overpowered him and tied him to a tree before informing the police.

The women of Guali village under Cuttack Sadar police limits are collectively campaigning against liquor. This was the second incident of them tying a bootlegger to a tree.

Earlier, the same group of women activists had tied another bootlegger Bapina Pradhan to a tree for similar offence and had handed him over to the police.

The initiative has gained the support of intellectuals in the area.
