Work on sewerage system in Odisha’s temple town on course

Construction of the modern sewerage treatment plant in Puri, Odisha’s temple town, ahead of the Nabakalebara festival next year has made substantial progress, a high level review meeting revealed today.

The meeting, presided over by chief secretary GC Pati at the State Secretariat here today, revealed that the sewerage treatment plant (STP) had been completed and made operational while laying of sewerage lines, main pumping lines and construction of pumping stations have made substantial progress.

Reviewing the progress, the chief secretary directed the Housing and Urban Development department and the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) to notify dates informing people to apply for connection to households, commercial complexes and hotels in the area where laying of main sewerage line and pumping stations have been completed, as per the notified dates.

Violation of the directive would result in legal action in terms of penalty fixed by the OSPCB, he said.

The chief Secretary also directed the concerned authorities to fix timelines for completion of the remaining works and inform the progress every fortnight to the Housing and Urban Development department.

The sewerage system plant in Puri has been taken up with a project estimate of Rs 80.45 crore over an area of 16.84 sq kms.

The Project includes 129.55 km of street sewer, 72.32 km of house sewer, 11.86 km of main pumping line, 10 pumping stations and one sewerage treatment plant of 15 MLD (million litres per day) capacity..

Against this work target, 123.10 km street sewer, 65 km of house sewer, 11.86 km main pumping line, seven pumping stations and one sewerage treatment plant of 15 MLD have been completed, the meeting revealed.
