Worker falls off from 18th floor of under construction building; dies

Bhubaneswar, Mar 5:

A construction worker died after falling from the 18th floor of the under construction IDCO Tower 2010 at Macheswar Industrial Estate here on Wednesday.

The deceased, identified as Rahul Sekh (19) from Murshidabad district of West Bengal, fell down after the roof beam on the 18th floor of the tower on which he was working collapsed.

He was employed by Unity Infra Projects Limited, the company who has undertaken the construction work for IDCO tower.

When police reached the spot at around 4.30 pm, Sekh was already dead, said inspector-in-charge of Mancheswar police station Bharat Sahoo.”He was later taken to the Capital Hospital here for autopsy,” Sahoo said.

Engineer of the construction company Manas Ghosh said seven workers were engaged in the construction work of the roof beam. “We have taken all safety precautions during the construction work. The worker were given helmets, net was put up at the construction spot and rope with belt was also tied to the workers. But how the mishap occurred despite all this is a matter that will be known only after an inquiry,” Ghosh said.
