World Sleep Day 2022 Theme, Significance, Objective

Sleep, and a sound one, is essential for a person to rejuvenate and stay physically, mentally and psychologically fit. Hence, World Sleep Day is celebrated on March 18 every year.

A group of dedicated healthcare providers and medical community members started the event with the goal to discuss and distribute sleep information around the world. The first co-chairs of World Sleep Day were Liborio Parrino, MD, Associate Professor of Neurology at Parma University, Italy and Antonio Culebras, MD, Professor of Neurology, Upstate Medical University, and Consultant, The Sleep Center, Community General Hospital, Syracuse, New York, USA.

The aim of observing World Sleep Day was to celebrate the importance of healthy sleep among people. Earlier, the society encouraged 24/7 flow of work which was harmful for people’s physical well-being. Thus, researchers and sleep medicine professionals came up with the day.

World Sleep day is hosted by World Sleep Society (WSS). It is a non-profit society based in the United States. World Sleep Society does not support, recommend or endorse any products of services. The awareness event does accept corporate sponsorships to help support the cost to host the event, but World Sleep Society, the World Sleep Day Committee, or any person affiliated with WSS does not endorse or recommend commercial products, treatments, or companies.
