World Water Day: Sambad Digital launches logo at Birla Global University

Bhubaneswar:  Raising awareness on the importance of fresh water, its scarcity, lack of sanitation and related issues, Sambad Digital organised a logo launch programme at the Birla Global University (BGU) in Bhubaneswar on the occasion of World Water Day on Wednesday.

Participating in the event, founder editor of Sambad group Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, news editor Arabind Das, registrar of BGU Professor BK Das and other members of the university expressed their views on the gravity of environmental issues faced by the world population today. Apart from launching a logo to mark the occasion, the discussions revolved around the need to devote significant attention towards conservation of natural resources like water, trees and forests not just for the current times but future generations as well.

With depleting resources, the crisis of water scarcity has the potential of triggering a Third World War. Every crisis is a warning signal to correct the course of nature. Problems like these pave way for solutions and just like it emerged as an example of the most efficient disaster management after the 1999 super cyclone, Odisha can emulate its feat and show the way forward in tackling water crisis, the participants shared.

“Odisha is rich in resources both below and above the land surface. It boasts of mineral-rich mines, dense forests as well as a 480 km long coastline and it is our duty to make optimal and judicious use of these resources,” stressed Patnaik while Das spoke about exercising vigilance to tackle the looming challenges in his keynote address.

“Earlier, water outside used to be so clean that it was fit for consumption but now even water at home is unfit for drinking purpose. Awareness on clean drinking water is the need of the hour and students are the best means of spreading the message,” said BGU Registrar Prof Das.

Later, a talent competition was also conducted on behalf of Sambad Digital where participants debated on the water crisis and possible solutions to tackle it.

Among others, chairperson of Astha School of Management Dr Sharmila Subramanium, Chairperson of IMMT Dr Soni Pande, Manas Mishra of Odisha Water Resources department, BGU assistant professor Siddharth Mishra participated.

Marketing Head of Sambad Digital and Radio Choklate Lingaraj Lenka felicitated the guests.

In 2015, the world committed to Sustainable Development Goals (6) as part of the 2030 agenda – the promise that everyone would have safely managed water and sanitation by 2030.
