Young Odisha doctor succumbs to COVID-19; fraternity pays condolence

Bhubaneswar: Amidst the worsening COVID-19 situation in the state, a 32-year-old doctor of IMS and SUM Hospital here has succumbed to the deadly virus in the line of duty yesterday.

Deceased Hrudananda Bhuyan was an Associate Professor of General Medicine Department at the hospital. He was suffering from COVID-19 and had sickle cell disease related complications, said the Resident Doctors’ Association of AIIMS. 

However, the 32-year-old doctor, who had married last year, had no history of diabetes mellitus, hypertension or any other illness.

“He was well known among his colleagues for his highest form of ethical practice. His demise is a loss to both patients and medical fraternity. We pay homage to such a young noble soul who died in the line of duty. Let his brevity and professionalism be an inspiration to all COVID Warriors around the world,” said the association while condoling the doctor’s demise. 

The association also requested the state Government to honour him in recognition of his services.
