Young women trafficked from Odisha working as ‘slaves’ in Saudi Arabia

Rourkela: As many as 15 young women trafficked from Odisha are now working as ‘slaves’ in Saudi Arabia, revealed two victims, who recently returned home town after living a tortured life there.

Recalling their experience and nightmare they went through in Saudi Arabia, the two victims from the Steel City described prime accused Biswajit, who was arrested from Pattamundai in Kendrapara district in connection with women trafficking, a ‘traitor’ and appealed not to release him on bail.

The young women from various places in Odisha trafficked to Saudi Arabia by the middleman Biswajit are being sold at around Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh to Arabic nationals. The women are being engaged in various businesses with salary of only Rs 40,000 in the country, said the victims.

Revealing about their story, they said that they were in the trap of Biswajit, who provided them passport and VISA alluring them of offering job overseas at handsome package. After landing in Saudi Arabia, they were shocked to see entire scene that how the women victims were tortured there. They found more than 60 young women trafficked from India were lying naked and given electric shock. They came to know that they were sold by the broker at Rs 25 lakh.

However, they were freed with help of Indian Embassy.

The network of women trafficking operated by Biswajit was spread to Sundergarh, Mayurbhanj, Balugaon and other areas, the victims told media.

Notably, the prime accused was arrested by a special squad of Raghunathpali police on basis of the written complaint lodged by the victims after they returned their native place on December 12, 2017. Biswajit was nabbed from his home at Pattamundai.
