Youth arrested for killing former school teacher in Odisha’s Keonjhar

The duo reportedly had a conversation which led to an argument. As the spat got uglier, Arup took a knife and stone and attacked Anirudh leading to his death on the spot.

Hatadihi: Days after a school teacher was found brutally murdered in Hatadihi block of Keonjhar district in Odisha, police has arrested a youth in this connection here today. The accused was identified as Arup, a former student of the deceased Anirudh Swain, a Maths teacher at Dhenka High School. He was arrested by Nandipada police from Kaniari village of Dhenka panchayat within Soso police limits.

Sources said Arup was staying outside the State but was at home for the last three months. He had maintained relations with Anirudh, his former teacher throughout. Last month, Arup went to stay at Anirudh’s house. The duo reportedly had a conversation which led to an argument. As the spat got uglier, Arup took a knife and stone and attacked Anirudh leading to his death on the spot. He then fled the scene with Anirudh’s two-wheeler. Two weeks back, fire services personnel recovered the body of Anirudh from a canal. Police reached the spot and seized the vehicle, and weapons used in the crime which the accused had left there. The cops also managed to lay their hands on a steel bangle of the accused. After starting an investigation and following the cues, they managed to nab accused Arup.

Informing the same, Anandpur SDPO Prasant Kumar Behera said the accused has been arrested and will be produced in court. A case in this regard has been registered.
