Youth arrested for killing lover in Odisha’s Sundargarh

A youth has been arrested by Sundargarh police on Monday afternoon for allegedly killing his lover by strangulating her on Sunday afternoon.

Based on an FIR filed with Talasara police station by the father of the deceased, the local police arrested the accused—Hareram Bag—today. He would be forwarded to court tomorrow.

According to Dila Lakra, father of slain Sarita, the accused had called up the deceased on Sunday afternoon to meet her at Dudungnala. When she did not return home till late in the evening, Dila tried to contact her over phone, but in vain. The family members grew suspicious and went out to search for her.

They came to know from acquaintances that their daughter has been killed by Hareram. They located the body this morning and lodged an FIR with the local police station.

After getting information, Talsara police station rushed to the spot and recovered the body which was sent for post mortem. Police then searched accused Hareram Bag’s house on this afternoon and arrested him from behind his house where he was hiding.

According to police, Hareram has confessed to committing the crime as he suspected Sarita of infidelity.

“The accused has admitted to have committed the crime. They had a quarrel over the accused suspecting the deceased of having a love relationship with another person. Following altercation, he strangulated her and fled the spot. He will be forwarded to court tomorrow,” LK Pradhan, Sub Inspector, Talsara Police station said.

As per sources, Sarita Lakra (25), a resident of Nayakbahal village under Talsara police station, was working as a teacher in Project Upper Primary School since last 18 months. Sarita was in a relationship with Hareram Bag (28), a resident of Balishankara village under the same police station, since last seven years.
