Youth arrested for raping minor in Odisha capital

Police have forwarded a youth to court who was arrested on charges of raping an 11-year-old girl living in a slum under Mancheswar police station limits in Odisha capital.

The accused identified as Rabindra Rout, a resident of Maa Hadbai slum, was a neighbour of the victim. The incident happened yesterday when the victim was alone in the house where the accused called her to his house and raped her after threatening her.

The parents of the girl– father a mason and the mother a daily wage labourer– had gone to work when the incident took place. The girl told her mother about the incident when she returned home.

After a complaint was registered in the Mahila Police Station, the police arrested the accused and forwarded him to court after an investigation.

According to police sources, the accused was known to the victim and he had called her to his house many times and misbehaved with her, earlier.
