Youth beaten to death over suspected bike theft in Odisha’s Subarnapur

As per reports, Jogeshwar was coming from Rampur on his bike on Sunday evening when a group of miscreants suddenly attacked him at Balitikra for his suspected role in a bike theft that had taken place last month .

Barpali: In a horrifying incident, a youth was reportedly beaten to death over suspicion of bike theft in Gajabandha village under Barpali police limits of Subarnapur district in Odisha today. The deceased was identified as Jogeshwar Meher (22) of Gajabandha village.

As per reports, Jogeshwar was coming from Rampur on his bike on Sunday evening when a group of miscreants suddenly attacked him at Balitikra for his suspected role in a bike theft that had taken place last month . They reportedly kept thrashing him until he collapsed on the ground. Police on getting information reached the spot and rushed a bleeding Jogeshwar to Barpali hospital but he succumbed during treatment.

Sources said one Rajendra Bhoi of Baliktikra had filed a complaint regarding theft of his bike on October 27 and Jogeshwar was one of the suspects. This, according to police, may have led to the attack on him.

“My nephew had gone to see a jatra show at Pandkital. While returning, seven youths from Balitikra intercepted him. They then abducted him and beat him to death. There was no past enmity as per my knowledge. Police has arrested seven persons but they believe two or three more people are involved. They say the remaining accused will be held soon,” claimed uncle of the deceased Nurpuraj Meher of Gajabandha village.

While a case has been registered and the body seized for autopsy, police has detained seven persons in this connection.

Barpali IIC Rosaline Patel said investigation into the matter is underway and cause behind the attack on Jogeshwar will be ascertained soon.
