Youth beaten to death over suspected extra-marital affair in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

The deceased was identified as Sunaram Tudu (25) of Gandigodha village of Sureidihi panchayat. 

Baripada: In a shocking incident, a youth was allegedly beaten to death over suspicion of having an extra-marital affair in Morada tehsil of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district here today. The incident was reported from Kenduchatia village of Bhaliadiha panchayat within Betnoti polic limits of the district. The deceased was identified as Sunaram Tudu (25) of Gandigodha village of Sureidihi panchayat.

He was allegedly tied to a tree and beaten up all night with wooden logs and bamboo sticks by one Jasaya Tudu and his son Bapun (Madhu) over suspected extra-marital affair with the former’s wife.

As per reports, Jahira puja was observed in the village on Monday. Following the rituals, there was a customary dance during which Sunaram and Jasaya’s wife participated but soon disappeared from the spot. Suspecting something amiss, Jasaya followed them where he reportedly caught the duo in a compromising position at an isolated place.

Furious, he along with his son Bapun caught hold of Sunaram and took him to the village where they tied him up to a tree with a rope and thrashed him mercilessly leading to his death on the spot.

On getting information, Betnoti SDPO Sudarshan Das and IIC Sasmita Mahanta along with a scientific team reached the spot and started investigation. “Police have detained both the accused for interrogation and probe is underway,” they said.
