Three unidentified miscreants fired at a youth and fled, injuring him seriously in the Nuagaon village in Agasti area of Berhampur, today.

The youth identified as Rajeev Das has sustained head injuries near his eye and has been admitted to Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati Medical College and Hospital (MKCG), Berhampur in a critical condition.

His family said that three youths had shot at Rajeev while he had gone out to for morning ablutions, today.The villagers are in tension and fear because of this incident.

The reason for the firing has not been ascertained yet, but it might be a case of past rivalry, according to sources.

Police have reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident.
