Panic gripped the Bali market area on National Highway-55 under Gurudijhatia police station limits of Athagarh block in Odisha Cuttack district after a local youth was shot dead by unidentified youths this morning.

murderAccording to reports, Kishore Mohanty, a youth of Mohanty Sahi of Bali village, was sitting near a shop at Bali market in the morning when four youths came on two bikes and had an altercation with him.

Suddenly one of the youths opened six rounds of fire at Jitendra from point-blank range. The bullets hit Jitendra in the ear killing him on the spot.

Soon after the incident, the two youths sped away on the bike.

The incident took place at about 9 AM.

Tension ran high in the area as irate locals staged a road blockade on NH-55 demanding immediate arrest of the assailants. Vehicular traffic came to a grinding halt due to the blockade.

Following information, police rushed to the spot and took the body for post-mortem to Athagarh  sub divisional hospital.

According Ashok Kumar Das, IIC of Gurudijhati Police Station, the family members of the deceased had earlier lodged a complaint against some youths who had threatened to kill him.

Till reports last came in, police have launched a manhunt to nab the culprits.
