Youth suspected of holding fake passport detained in Odisha capital

Officials of the Regional Passport Office in the Odisha capital today detained a youth on suspicion following mismatch of credentials in documents while he was trying to obtain police clearance to get a visa to travel to China.

Sk Farid, a youth hailing from Panisandha village under Bhograi police limits in Balasore district was detained at the Regional Passport Office here following detection of variance in credentials in documents provided by him. Even his signature and father’s name varied in different documents provided by him to obtain a police clearance for fetching a visa to visit China, sources in the Passport Office said.

Interestingly, Sk Farid has been issued with a passport in 2007.

Regional Passport Office officials here said the matter was being investigated to find out whether Farid had obtained the passport using fake/forged documents or it was due to mistakes. He is being interrogated, they added.

On the other hand, Farid has, however, questioned if there existed discrepancies in his documents how was he issued with a passport.

“My name has been incorrectly entered in the voters list. I haven’t committed any forgery. There is very little variance in my signature,” said Farid answering to queries by reporters.

It may be noted here that nine Bangladeshi nationals were caught in Bhubaneswar while they were trying to obtain passports by producing forged documents.
