Youth who threatened Odisha secretariat staff gets govt job

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Aug 18:

Sushant Kumar Nayak, a youth of Dhenkanal district who was arrested for brandishing a knife and threatening the private secretary (PS) to the special secretary of the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) department inside the Odisha Secretariat a few weeks ago, has been appointed as a peon under the rehabilitation scheme of the government.

Sushant NayakSushant has been selected for this job as his father had died while in service. He would report to Division-2 of Public Health Department at Cuttack.

It may be noted that Sushant  had earlier met the H&UD department officials on a number of occasions requesting for the job, but all his attempts had been futile.

He had taken recourse to the extreme step on July 4 after being fed up with the delay in his appointment under the rehabilitation scheme following which he was arrested and sent to Jharpada jail for 13 days.

After sustained coverage of his plight in the local media and the intervention of human rights activists, the Chief Secretary held meetings to take a call on issues pertaining to employment under rehabilitation scheme. The Chief Minister also directed to finish the hearing of such cases in less than four months.

Based on the decision, the H&UD department included Sushant’s name in the list of 49 candidates in the first phase under the rehabilitation scheme on compassionate grounds.
