Bhograi: A man was killed on the spot and a woman sustained grievous injuries in separate incidents of lightning strike in Balasore, early in the morning today.
According to a source, the first incident was reported from Tukuri village of Hazira panchayat under Bhograi police limits in the district. The deceased was identified as 23-year-old Ranjan Paramanik, the lone son of Harendra from the village. Ranjan was a student at a private engineering college in Bhubaneswar. He had recently gone to his native village.
It was raining heavily in the morning along with lightning. Ranjan was to visit a prawn Gheri and he was on his way when the fatal mishap occurred. He had taken shelter in a shanty (thatched house). All of a sudden, lightning hit him and he collapsed on the ground and later died.
Ranjan was charred in the incident along with the Kutcha house.
In the second incident, the daughter-in-law of Mrutyunjay Ghadei was injured due to an electrical short-circuit at the time of lightning strike at Pasarabindha village. It is said that the woman was using her mobile phone when she suffered the injury.
The injured was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment in critical condition.
