Mathili: An eight-year-old girl child was killed and 11 others fell sick today after feasting at a wedding reception in Nuaguda village of Bandhaguda under Mathili block in Malkangiri district.

According to a source, many villagers from Bandhuguda had attended a wedding reception in Nuagaon. Following the feast, 12 of them fell sick in the afternoon and became serious. The sick persons including women and children were admitted to the Sub-divisional Hospital (SDH) in Mathili for treatment.

Meanwhile, four sick persons were shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Malkangiri after their conditions deteriorated. The kid later succumbed while undergoing treatment in the DHH.

Separate medical teams have reached the two villages and are providing adequate treatment. “We are watchful on the health condition of the sick persons,” a doctor in one of the teams expressed.
