1 dead, 4 more critically injured after abandoned level crossing cabin collapses during demolition in Odisha’s Sambalpur

Godbhaga: A labourer was killed and four others sustained grievous injuries as an abandoned level crossing cabin collapsed during demolition near Godbhaga railway station in Sambalpur district, today afternoon.

The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Uttam Singh, who belonged to Bihar and the injured were identified as Mohammed Ali (35) and Mohammed Gul Shikhar, both from Bihar, Rajendra Behera (25) from Cuttack and Imtiaz Mallik (29) from West Bengal.

According to a source, around five labourers were engaged by a contract firm from Bhubaneswar to demolish the old and rundown cabin building when the fatal mishap occurred. The labourers were initially demolishing the cabin roof but it collapsed. As a result, Uttam died on the spot.

On being informed, two teams of fire services personnel from Burla and Attabira reached the spot. The three injured were rescued and admitted to hospital for treatment in critical condition.

GRP police seized the body of Uttam and sent it to hospital for post-mortem. Police have launched a probe into the mishap, which is underway.
