1 killed, 16 injured as bus overturns on NH-16 near Odisha’s Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: A person was killed and 16 others were injured after a private bus overturned on the National Highway-16 at Gopalpur near Odisha’s Cuttack city today.

The private bus named ‘Chandan’ overturned at Gopalpur while the vehicle was on its way to Balasore from the capital city in the evening, sources said.

The locals immediately gathered at the spot and rescued the injured before rushing them to hospital. One person died on the spot while 16 passengers sustained injuries in the mishap, locals said.

“A cyclist suddenly came in front of the bus. The bus overturned on the median after the driver lost control over the vehicle while trying to save the cyclist,” said an eyewitness.
