1 killed, 20 others injured as 2 passenger buses collide head-on in Odisha’s Sonepur

Bhubaneswar: One person was killed and at least 20 others were injured when two passenger buses collided head-on in Odisha’s Sonepur district today.

The mishap took place on Sonepur-Sambalpur highway near Dudupali under Birmaharajpur police station in Sonepur in the evening.

A passenger bus named ‘Karishma’, on its way to Sambalpur from Sonepur, collided with another bus named ‘Chakadola’ coming from the opposite direction at a turning on the highway near Dudupali.

The driver of ‘Chakadola’ bus died on the spot. The driver of ‘Karishma’ bus and around 20 passengers were injured in the mishap.

Some of the injured were identified as Umesh Das and Mansingh Nayak of Sambalpur, Amit Bagh of Atabira, Indra Haripal and Karpura Kheti of Ulunda, Milan Sheikh of Kolkata, Ashutos Behera of Manamunda, Vedmati Behera of Bargarh, Rajani Behera of Angul, Kumari, Bhaina, Keshab Behera and Chandra Behera of Daldabar, Padmini Das of Sonepur, Govind Das of Rengali and Sumant Khandagiri of Manmunda.

The locals rescued the injured persons and rushed them to Sonepur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
