1 student dead, 3 more critically injured after car rams into trailer truck in Odisha’s Khurda

Chandpur: A male student was killed and three more including two female students sustained grievous injuries today as the speeding car in which they were travelling hit a trailer truck from behind on NH-16 near Gourachandrapur Chhak of Chandpur bypass road and this police limit in Khurda district.

The deceased youth was identified as Amarjyoti Rout (28), son of Subhakant Rout from Jahangir locality in Dhamra of Bhadrak district. The critically injured youth has been identified as Deepti Samantaray (24), the son of Ratnakar Samantaray from Kendrapara district.

The critically injured female students are Ranjita Nayak and Komal Sharma, who hail from Kalahandi and Bhadrak districts, a police source informed.

According to a source, four students of a college in Bhubaneswar were on their way to Chilika for a visit when they met with a fatal accident. They had no classes today due to Holi vacations.

The four critically injured were rescued by some locals with the help of fire services personnel and were rushed to a nearby government-run health facility for treatment. However, one of them was declared ‘dead’ by the doctors in the hospital, while he was undergoing treatment.

Later, the three others were shifted to AIIMS in Bhubaneswar after their conditions deteriorated. The injured are not out of danger now, a doctor treating them expressed.

On being informed, Chandpur police reached the spot and initiated a probe, which is underway.
