1000 acre to be made encroachment-free in Odisha capital soon

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Mar 2:

In view of delay in several projects due to land related issues, Odisha government has decided to make its 1000 acre land encroachment-free in the state capital soon.

According sources from Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), around 1100 acre government land has been encroached in the city, out of which only 100 acre has been made encroachment-free so far. The remaining 1000 acre would be made encroachment-free very soon for the completion of various government projects.

The boundary wall would be constructed around the land in phases, sources said.

As the government is facing challenges in implementation of several projects due to encroachment of land, the decision has been taken to keep detailed record of all the land by the help of geographic information system (GIS) mapping technology after constituting land bank.

The General Administration (GA) department has given permission to Odisha Space Applications Centre (ORSAC) for the GIS mapping of the land.

At present, the data is documented in papers and at times it becomes difficult to keep record of the land properly. The GIS mapping would help the officials to get instant information about land.

The land bank based on GIS mapping would be set up within six months and a blueprint will be prepared accordingly about the proposed projects in the Odisha capital.

“Now, we are making identification of government land manually for which the process for making the land encroachment-free is being delayed. With the GIS-based mapping, it would help us to track the government land and about its status. Apart from getting instant data through GIS mapping technology, it would be easier for us for making the land encroachment-free and the vigil will be kept on the land after eviction”, said Subhranshu Mohanty, Liaison Officer, BDA.
