12-YO engaged as domestic help at ex-Collector’s house in Odisha capital rescued

Bhubaneswar: A 12-year-old girl engaged at a former Collector’s residence at IRC Village here as a domestic help was rescued today.

On receiving information about the minor girl, Childline officials with the help of Nayapalli police rescued her from the house. She will later be produced before the  Child Welfare Committee (CWC), sources said.

Reportedly, the house owner’s son works as a professor at National Law University (NLU) Hyderabad and daughter runs an English Medium school for kids at IRC Village.

Sources said the girl was trafficked from her village in  Berhampur of Ganjam district in November 2020 and was engaged as a domestic servant at the ex-Collector’s house. Her father is a rickshaw puller and mother works as a domestic help too. The minor girl was studying in Class- V when she came to the state capital.
