Tremors shake Odisha again; no damage reported

For the third time in the last one month, large parts of Odisha were shaken by tremors this afternoon, sending panic among the people still recovering from the shock of the devastating earthquake in Nepal. The tremors were felt at 12. 35 pm.

Dubbing the earthquake as one of ‘great intensity’, the Met centre here said the quake with its epicentre at latitude 27.70 North and longitude 86.00 East in Nepal measured 7.3 on the Richter scale.

The epicentre of the earthquake is at a distance of about 825 km from Bhubaneswar in the direction of North and hence no major damage occurred in Odisha.

The tremors were felt for a few seconds at many places in the state, including the Twin City of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam and Sundargarh.

In the capital city of Bhubaneswar, people were seen rushing out of high-rise buildings and apartments into the open.

“I had gone to the CESU office at Power House square to deposit my electricity bill when the quake occurred. All of a sudden, furniture and fans started shaking and everybody, including the staff, rushed out,” a man told a local television channel.

No loss of life or property has been reported from any part of the state so far.
