13 minor labourers rescued in Odisha’s Rayagada town

Rayagada, Nov 13:

A total of 13 minor children were rescued by a team of Labour officials from the bus stand in Odisha’s Rayagada town on Wednesday night.

Talking to OST, District Labour Inspector Chaitanya Prasad Majhi said a broker was taking these minor children of Bijapur area in Kalahandi district to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Kerala to work there as migrant labourers.

“After arriving at Rayagada, these children were waiting for a bus to Balugan from where they were scheduled to board a train to Andhra Pradesh. Following information, we reached the bus stand in time and rescued them,” Majhi said.

He said of the 13 children, all of them in the 15-16 age group, nine are girls and four boys.

“We have put these children at the short stay home and informed their family members. Efforts are on to nab the broker, who has absconded,” he added.
