About 130 persons, including more than 15 children, fell sick in a suspected case of food poisoning in Dangamala Gram Panchayat of Rajnagar block late on Monday night.
The villagers, belonging to Khamarsahi, Baradiha, Nalitapatia and Nuagaon villages, fell sick after taking part in a community feast at Balai Singh’s place in Khamarsahi village on the occasion of his son’s birthday.
They were rushed to the Dangamal PHC after developing symptoms of vomiting, abdomen pain and dysentery. Three of them, including a child, had to be shifted to the district headquarters hospital in Kendrapara on Tuesday after their condition worsened, Kendrapara chief district medical officer (CDMO) Gyanendra Kumar Tripathy said.
Acting on the information from Rajnagar medical officer, Dr. Bhaktidipak Pattnaik, the CDMO sent two medical teams, including one from Kendrapara, to provide treatment to the patients.
“A medical team from Rajnagar is already camping at Dangamal to provide treatment to the sick. The situation is under control,” informed the CDMO .
According to Rajnagar medical officer, Dr Bhaktadipak Pattnaik, more than two hundred villagers of four villages were affected in food poisoning. While 130 persons were treated in hospitals of Dangamala and Rajnagar, others were undergoing treatment from local quacks.
