Two killed, 14 injured in cracker factory fire in Odisha’s Nayagarh

Nayagarh, Sep 23:

Two persons were killed and 13 others were injured in a fire that broke out in a cracker factory at Tanti Sahi in Itamati in Odisha’s Nayagarh district.

While the charred body of one person identified as Arata Sahu was recovered from the spot, another person Debendra Muduli succumbed to his injuries at the SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack. The condition of nine out of the 13 injured was stated to be critical.

The injured have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack as their condition deteriorated. Two others have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital here.

Most of the injured persons have sustained above 50% burns.

“We don’t know how it happened. I have carried around seven of them in my car to the hospital, others are coming by ambulance. All are badly injured,” said an eyewitness.

“We have rescued them and have brought them to the hospital. We don’t how it happened,” said Manoj Sahu, Sarpanch Itamati.

While the cause of the fire is not known, the cracker factory caught fire around 5PM today followed by a massive blast.

The police are investigating the matter.
