1576 new Anganwadi centres to come up in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: As many as 1576 new Anganwadi centres will come up in Odisha, informed State Women & Child Development Minister Tukuni Sahoo.

The new Anganwadi centres will be opened in tribal areas where people are facing acute malnutrition in Odisha, she told the House today.

There are 62,171 Anganwadi centres and 10,416 Mini Anganwadi centres in Odisha. The State Government had sent a proposal to the Centre to open 7,844 new Anganwadi centres. The latter asked the State Government to resend the proposal after reviewing it. But,1576 new Anganwadi centres will be set up in areas dominated by undernourised people.

Informing the House, the Minister said that total Rs 7 lakh is earmarked for setting up one Anganwadi centre. While Centre’s share is Rs 5 lakh, the State Government bears Rs 2 lakh for Anganwadi centre. Moreover, the district collectors have been directed to form committee to identify lands in urban areas to open Anganwadi centres.
