Bhubaneswar: Two Bhubaneswar-bound flights were diverted to Kolkata due to bad weather in Odisha capital here today.

This was revealed by Prasanna Pradhan, the Director of Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here.

A Delhi-Bhubaneswar flight of Air India Express was supposed to land at BPIA here at 5.15 pm today. Similarly, a Mumbai-Bhubaneswar flight of IndiGo was supposed to reach BPIA at 5.31 pm.

However, both these flights were diverted to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, said Pradhan.

Similarly, a chopper that began its journey for the Odisha capital from Jharsuguda was diverted due to bad weather, Pradhan added.

Earlier in the day, a Delhi-bound Vistara flight made a priority landing at BPIA after it suffered damage due to hailstorm.

The windshield of the flight developed cracks after it was hit by the hail. The hailstorm also caused damage to the flight’s exteriority.

The incident occurred soon after the flight took off from BPIA in the afternoon.

Notably, the capital city witnessed nor’wester rain and lightning today afternoon.
