2 children dead, parents critical due to food poisoning in Cuttack district

Badamba: A ten-year-old boy and his seven-year-old sister including their parents became critical after eating home-made food yesterday night at Birabarpur village of Abhimanpur panchayat under Badamba tehsil in Cuttack. However, the minor siblings died today morning while undergoing treatment.

The deceased boy was identified as Rudra and the girl as Ruchika, both children of Gobinda Patra and Runu Patra of Birabarpur village in the district, local police sources said.

Without divulging much, a co-villager Abhiram Pal said, “The cause of death is not known yet.”

According to a senior police official, an immersion ceremony of Lord Ganesh was going on at Badamba-Maniabandha locality in front of the family’s house. Mother of the two minors had prepared Ghuguni and Chat at home, which the family members ate on the intervening night.

Late at night, the boy and his sister including parents fell sick due to food poisoning. The four had severe head reeling and vomiting. They were admitted to government-run health facility in Maniabandha for treatment. It is said that they had consumed food mixed with a spurious substance.

The parents and their children were shifted to Cuttack City hospital and then again to Jagatpur Sadguru Hospital as their health conditions deteriorated and they became unconscious.

Local police have sent the two bodies to hospital for post-mortem.
