2 cops under Vigilance scanner for accepting bribe in Odisha’s Cuttack and Nabarangpur

Cuttack/ Nabarangpur: Separate teams of Odisha Vigilance sleuths arrested two policemen for allegedly accepting bribes in Cuttack and Nabarangpur districts, today.

In the first incident, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police identified as Alok Kumar Sarangi, presently working in Bhadreswar PS in Cuttack. was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8000 from a complainant to help him in a case registered earlier at the police station.

The entire bribe money has been recovered and later seized from the possession of Sarangi.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at three different locations associated with the ASI from a disproportionate assets (DA) angle.

In this connection, a Cuttack Vigilance PS case (No-6, dated 2.3.2024, U/s-7 of the PC Amendment Act, 2018 has been registered. An investigation is in progress against the accused Sarangi.

In the second incident, another ASI identified as Simanchal Moharana, presently working in Dabugaon PS in Nabarangpur was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance inside the police station while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 from a complainant for showing leniency and for helping in a case registered earlier in the PS against him (the complainant) and his family members.

On seeing the Vigilance officials, Moharana threw the entire bribe money into PS Malkhana. However, the same has been recovered and seized from the Malkhana. Both hands wash of ASI Moharana gave positive chemical reactions confirming acceptance of bribe money by Moharana.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two separate locations linked to the ASI Moharana from a DA angle.

In this connection, a Koraput Vigilance PS case (No-6, dated 2.3.2024, U/s-7 of the PC Amendment Act, 2018 has been registered. An investigation is in progress against the accused Moharana.
