2 dead, 3 others critically injured after two-wheelers collide head-on in Odisha’s Keonjhar

Dhenkikote: Two persons were killed and three others sustained grievous injuries as a motorcycle and a scooter collided at Kapaspada locality under Ghatagaon police limits on NH-220 connecting Dhenkikote and Patana in Keonjhar district, today morning at around 10.30 AM.

The deceased scooter rider was identified as Jadu Munda (26), who belonged to Kandasara village under Pandapada police limits. The deceased motorcycle rider was identified as Mitrabhanu Behera (40), who belonged to Tando village of Dumuria panchayat under Patana block.

According to a source, the fatal road mishap occurred when one of the two-wheelers was negotiating a turning at Kapaspada. Mitrabhanu was on his way along with his wife Surekha to Dhenkikote and Jadu was proceeding from Kandasara along with his sister Bhabani and brother-in-law Gopabandhu Munda to Sadangabahali village of Palanaghati panchayat under Patana block when the accident occurred.

“A youth riding a scooter died on the spot,” an eyewitness expressed.

Some locals rescued the injured and admitted them to a community health centre (CHC) in Patana in critical condition. However, Mitrabhanu succumbed while he was undergoing treatment.

On being informed, Ghatagaon police reached the spot and initiated a probe, which is underway. Police have registered a case (No-209/2024) in this connection.
