2 dead, 4 others critically injured in separate incidents of road mishap in Odisha districts

Lahunipada/Bhogarai: As many as two persons were killed and four others sustained grievous injuries in separate incidents of road mishap in Balasore and Sundargarh districts of Odisha.

In the first incident, two transgenders were killed on the spot and two more were critically injured as a scooter on which they were travelling had a head-on collision with a Hyva truck in the wee hours of Sunday at around 3.00 am on Rajamunda bypass under Lahunipada police limits in Sundargarh.

The two deceased transgenders belonged to Lahangapada village of the district.

On being informed, local police reached the spot and launched a probe into the road mishap. Police have seized the bodies and sent them to a nearby hospital for post-mortem and a report is awaited.

In the second incident, a middle-aged married couple met with an accident today near Thana Chhak in Jaleswar locality under Bhogarai block of Balasore district. The duo was travelling on a scooter when a sand-laden truck rammed into their two-wheeler from behind. Their condition is critical now.

The man has been identified as Achinta Das Mohapatra from Rasulpur village in the district.

According to a police source, Achinta has lost his left hand and his wife has lost her two legs in the road mishap. Initially, they were rescued and admitted to a hospital in Jaleswar and were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their health conditions deteriorated.

The couple is undergoing treatment and not out of danger, a doctor treating them said.
