4 dead, 6 hurt as vehicle hits divider in Odisha’s Sundargarh

Rourkela: In a tragic mishap, four persons including a couple died while six others suffered grievous injuries after a vehicle they were travelling in, hit a divider in Chandiposh in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.

The deceased were identified as Sarojini Dasmahapatra (58) and her husband Tapan Dasmahapatra (60), Gagan Kamilia (60) and Amrita Mohanty (45). All four succumbed while undergoing treatment in a critical condition.

As per reports, 10 perons were travelling in a Bolero from Bhograi in Balasore district to Rourkela when the driver fell asleep at the wheel resulting in the vehicle hitting the divider and overturning. The incident took place on NH 143 near Dhan Nagar within Chandiposh police limits.

Locals rushed all the injured passengers to Rourkela Government Hospital but Sarojini and Tapan succumbed during treatment. While the other victims were shifted to a private hospital in Vedvyas, Gagan and Amrita too breathed their last there while being treated.

Police informed that the vehicle has been seized and investigation is underway. The exact cause of death of the  victims will be established after the postmortem report arrives.
