Jaleswar/Bhanjanagar: Two persons from Odisha were killed on the spot and five others sustained grievous injuries in a road mishap as the car in which they were travelling hit a truck from behind at Narayangarh on NH-16 in neighbouring West Bengal, today forenoon.

One of the deceased was identified as Khirod Pradhan. However, the identities of others have not been ascertained yet, a senior policeman expressed.

The five injured were rescued by police with the help of some locals in critical condition and were rushed to the district headquarters hospital in Midnapore of West Bengal for treatment. Their health condition is not out of danger, a doctor treating them said.

According to the official source, the seven persons from Bhanjanagar of Ganjam district were on their way to Raniganj locality in West Bengal for some work when they met with an accident.

“A probe was initiated into the incident, which is underway,” the police official said.

Police have sent the bodies to hospital for post-mortem, the cop added.
